I like Mortite, because it seals well, but remains soft in case you ever need to remove the driver again. The silicone bond is too hard to break, especially with a recessed driver.

The old felt gasket on your Wharfedale cabinet has probably compressed/hardened a bit over the years. Replace it with comparable felt weather stripping from local hardware store.
