I am considering both these Gershman models and am wondering if anyone who has heard both could weigh-in as to which one they preferred and/or how they differed.
Infomation on these speakers is a bit scarce (especially in the case of the Gap 828). Spec-wise, the Gap reaches down to 22 Hz wheres the Avant Garde "only" goes down to 24. From the info I have been able to find, both speakers can be a bit boomy (especially if placed too close to walls) and I suspect if this potential issue is more pronounced with the Gap.
I have heard that the Gap's presentation may be a bit on the "polite" side and that the Avant Garde is the "jewel of the line" so perhaps in this case bigger (and more expensive!) is not better.
(There is now a new 3rd version of the Avant Garde which has been out for around a year or so so please specify which version you heard. I am looking at buying used and Gershman can upgrade MkI or MkII Avant Gardes to the newer spec [including all new drivers and crossover] which, according to Ofra Gershman, nets a very substantial increase in performance but the cost is about $1,800. Interestingly, the price difference between the two models on the second-hand market is probably less than that.)
