I've never heard of Merlins. I'm 'knocking' Harbeths for high cost because they've almost doubled in cost in seven years.
Some manufacturers look at what it costs to build and market something and add on to their costs a profit-margin. Magnepan comes to mind. Believe me, the MG12's are 'cost+' priced. Some companies, on the other hand, use a more 'what the market will bear' approach to pricing.
It seems to me an argument could be made that Harbeth is one of those companies. I'm not saying it is. I don't know.
I'm not saying they're not worth it. I'm not saying they're not good.
I'm just saying...hey, it's a lot a money for a 2-way 8" mid-size 'bookshelf' speaker. Even a damn good one (which they are).
