After gathering the many responses I got here about what small speakers to buy for my apartment where I can't use a subwoofer, I finally landed on Wharfedale 8.1's based on specs (which varied very little from one brand to another), availability and price.
They are incredible!!
I'm now considering whether I should bi-wire them and if I should look into a Wharfedale center speaker, which, alone, is looking like it's going to cost as much as the pair of bookshelf speakers.
