Adding subwoofers

I would like to add subwoofers to my Maggies. The way REL does it is to take the input signal to the sub amplifier from the output of the main amps rather than from a preamp output. Sounds like an interesting idea. I'd like to try this with non-REL subs. Does anyone out there know how to do this?
