Good choices. I haven't heard the current version of the S8, but the first version was superb. We have the first version of the S2 in our main system with a big subwoofer. I presume the second versions are even better.

I would imagine that a big subwoofer would have more output capability in the deep bass than even an S8, which has very good bass extension. I would go with the S6 and a big subwoofer for HT. I would think that the S6 with a subwoofer would be more than adequate for your big room.

Our family room is much smaller and we use the old, moderately insensitive PSB Stratus Minis plus a small subwoofer. We don't listen at very loud levels and a 75 watt Yamaha receiver works fine.
