To be honest, I haven't heard that many in that price range. Right now, I'm listening to Radiohead on a pair of Mackie HR824 powered studio monitors, which (though they don't go as low) I prefer to the Vandys. Fewer mistakes, less obvious character. You can buy them at any Guitar Center for $600 and change each (they'll bargain), and return them if you don't like them. No magic, but few (but not none) really obvious mistakes.

I'm currently shopping and plan to spend a bit more money. I've written a followup review of the Dynaudio C1s, which I understand is tentatively scheduled for the August issue of Stereophile. Got some others in the pipeline.
