The old ones were voiced like all the old BBC minis to make the music sound "real". The newest models are voiced to sell in the home theater market. They are more impact speakers with more slam! I find them unnerving and fatiguing. But you have to realize I don't use my speakers to listen to sound effects, as i don't have a TV. I use them to listen to music.
