speaker placement

I live in a rural area and have occasionally traveled out of my way to find speakers that are "musical". My point of reference was the lowly Acoustic Energy Aegis One which I've had for 7 or 8 years but because of its entry-level status I knew it could be bettered. The problem I found was that I couldn't find a speaker with the "comfortable" AE character but better enough. After auditioning B&W, Paradigm, Revel, Focal, Vandy, Maggies, PSB and others and not being impressed enough to seal the deal, I decided to mate speakers to my amp by specs and reviews. I had my choices narrowed to Soliloquy 5.0s and Von Schweikert VR-1s. (I too have limited placement options. My speakers are about 7ft apart on the long wall of a small extra bedroom turned into a listening room.) By the time I narrowed my choices to 2 and came up with the funds, Soliloquy was out of business, but Underwood hifi in Atlanta still had the 5.0s so I orderd them. (I was going to get the VR-1s later for comparison but they're discontinued.) The 5.0s do mate well with my 40wpc Jolida tube amp as the specs suggested and i'm enjoying them, but they probably won't be my last speakers. Although the VR-1s are discontinued, I've read that the Mobile Fidelity OML-1 has similar characteristics. Other contenders might be the Opera Consonance Eric-1 which is supposed to be placement friendly and maybe one of the Usher models. All these are in the 1 grand and under range because that was/is my budget for standmount speakers.
