Your preferences for sound are the biggest unknown in the speaker choice equation. There is a speaker out there for you that fits this bill, but you won't know it until you hear it.

A possible, but certainly not foolproof approach, would be to focus on speakers that are popular, but have not changed their technology very much in the last 10-30 years.
