A speaker does not reproduce sound at the speed of sound. It cannot. That is why a dynamic driver generally utilizes a cone. It is using compression effects to try to deliver the sonic impact of what you would have heard in an ideal driver configuration. Horns are even more efficient but that is a whole different post subject.
Smaller drivers produce faster bass and midbass response. You can measure it if you actually take the time to measure things.
Multiple smaller drivers produce faster response and equal or surpass a larger single cone driver.
We use multiple drivers in arrays for professional sound reinformement (live music events.....).
Wanna know how it would sound with a single larger driver?
