why do manufacturers today tend to build their floorstanding speakers thinner & thinner and deeper and deeper, they prefer multiple smaller drivers for the bass rather than 1 or 2 bigger drivers? some say multiple smaller drivers have faster bass and do not sound sluggish at all (but in my opinion, i still prefer bigger drivers) , for example : multiple driver configurations (say 3 6.5" woofers) do not sound as good as (say a dual 8" or even 10" or 12") designs. any of you guys agree with me? It drives me crazy , is it because more people do not want the speakers to dominate physically in the room? and that the real industry trend is to make the best possible sound in the smallest possible box? Or is the multiple smaller bass driver really sound better? We might see the day that the only floorstanding speakers we can buy consist of a tall tower of 50" containing 6 5.25" driver for the bass?

please do enlighten me..
