Hello,

I have a pair of the AN J/L speakers. These are the press board/vinyl woodgrained version, with no plywood whatsoever. I picked these up used, and I am surprised how good they sound.

Questions:

I wanted AN speakers because they are famous for being designed for close to wall placement. However, the manual that came with these states 3+ feet from rear and side walls. This sounds like ANY speaker. What gives?

Are the current versions actually designed to be close to the wall, meaning inches, not feet?

Just how much better do the current/plywood versions sound? I have had these a couple years, and I like these enough that I have a hard time imagining that the new Lexus or SPE would sound enough better to be worth the cost difference. What could I expect to gain with the SPE?
