I don't recall JGH commenting in print about the JBLs. However, back in those days, his recommended components list had an emphasis on value for money especially for class B-D, since only class A was cost-no-object. So if he found a product that gave equally good sound for less money he would substitute it for a previously recommended component that cost more, especially in class B-D. That is quite unlike today's recommended component list where some class B components can actually cost MORE than some class A components - go figure.
