You might look into some of Quad's new L-series speakers. I can't vouch for the sound (they seem to get good reviews), but they are definitely nice "furniture grade" cabinets. Very well finished, come in different veneers, and can definitely be found in your price range on eBay or used on Audiogon. Just a thought...
