Thanks for the response but he supplier (Chelsea audio Portland Oregon) said it is best to keep the speakers forward of the monitor. The picture above is their recommended placement forward/back.

The main reason why I'm exploring other speakers is that my wife doesn't like the look of the Gallos and would rather have a speaker that is flat in the front and mounted flush with the monitor, much as you suggest.

Difficult to find, in a high audio quality speaker about 6" wide and that can be put up against a wall.
