To expound on what djk is saying, the high pass to the main speakers is simply one capacitor per channel. If there is no sound there, it could be simply a bad solder joint or loose wire.
However, the low pass (to the subwoofers) is an active crossover, comprising many Integrated circuits (teh design is pretty simple though). If that is what you are refering to as not passing sound, things get a little more indepth...
Of course, you didn't mention if it was the top, bottom, or both...
