Computer Speaker for $50? Any better than Bose?

I bought some Bose Companion 2 Computer Speakers. I was getting a deal on them (got them for $40 org $100) but I am not impressed at all. The speakers just sound so flat and its almost like the gain on them is low because I can hardly get any decent sound out of them. Anyway I was gonna sell them on ebay and get somethin else if there is anything else for around $50 - $70 that sound better?

I listened to some friends JBL Creature II computer speakers a while ago and I thought those sounded good. Think they're better than the bose? or anything else?

I record some music on it but will mainly be for video editing (in college now). Thanks.
