Using the short wall in our 16x23' room we were able to place our 2Ce Sigs as close as 21" (vertical center of speaker) from the back wall and 26" from side walls without significant compromises in sound.

Of course they sound better farther out, but for us they get in the way.

As far as efficiency I think it's the other way around, the 2's sound fantastic at low to moderate (mid 80s db in our room) it's the occasional Saturday night crank-ups where the 2's start to sound stressed.
