RE: Anybody ever tried Krells on MBL's?

Hi Davis Shapiro.

You have a system which equipmentwise potentially is among the very best in the world.
If you are not entirely happy with it there can be two reasons - either you will never be satisfied or one of the parts is not performing at the same level as the rest. If the last is the case then I have a suggestion and it doesn’t involve your Boulder amp which I believe won’t limit your listening pleasure in any ways, unless you are clipping it regularly, something I find hard to believe.

Before I come with my suggestion I will like to play the role as a clairvoyant (which I surely am not) and predict what you are dissatisfied with in your system. If I am right then take notice, if I am wrong then just laugh at me, it is always nice to give others a good laugh.

I believe what makes you dissatisfied is the following: Your systems seems slightly looses control in the bass range when you play it loudly, the bass doesn’t integrate with the mid and treble to the extent you want it to, and a slight loss of coherence can be heard. You would also like to be able to separate different low frequency instruments better spatially.
If this rings a bell, then I would like you to try to hear good room correction system like Lyngdorf’s Room Perfect it might be just what you have lusted and searched for. It comes in different packages, as preamp, integrated amp and stand-alone.

I have recently made a posting containing my impression of this room correction system at last weeks Hi-Fi show in Copenhagen, as you can understand my impression has been quite positive to say the least.
