I will say this until the day I die....

Vintage classics, in my opinion, are far better than today's tall, skinny, 6.5" woofer type speakers....

If I had $2K to $3K to spend, it would be on a pair of JBL L200 Studio Master speakers or a pair of cabinets with Tannoy 15" Dual Concentric drivers. Seriously, look through the vintage audio section on eBay or other websites....you get far more bang for your buck. There is a pair of JBL L-300 Summit speakers on eBay right now, although I think they will go for more than your $3K limit.

I had newer speakers, Paradigm, PSB, Infinity and others but none could compete with my JBL L200's....

just my two-cents....
