The type of finish on the Mahogany veneer? Who knows? I bought the pair at the local goodwill store, and it seems to me ( but I'm no expert ) that it was just stained with something, and that's it. From what I can tell there was no protective top coat applied. What I did when I bought the pair was slightly sanded the surface with fine steel wool, then applied 2 coats of Butchers Wax. I just rubbed the wax on, let it dry, then buffed to a nice sheen.
The water mark/ring turned the wood a pale white color.
Would any of you try dipping a rag in laquer thinner or mineral spirits, rub the area where the mark is, let it dry out, sand, then buff with wax?????
