dunno about commercial offerings, but you could certainly build something that'd fit the bill. i use an altec 414 in an altec 614 utility cabinet with a BMS compression driver and horn on top. detail and good tone.. but working out the kinks in a crossover is a time consuming process to say the least-- and i mix a second order on the bass, a first on the comp driver..it's tough to get time alignment right with 2 drivers as 1st orders-- some people will mix a first and second order, or NO crossover and a 1st order to get it right (e.g. joe esmilla's horn system)-- thiel offsets the drivers.
in regards to buying new... i guess i'm outa touch-- you might look around for a set of AR 4's at thrift store though, just to test the hypothesis! cheap investment-- but you've probably gotta update the crossover.. i've run across a bunch with dried out PIO caps!
