There is a way to turn the speakers into bass traps, albiet not very efficient, but leave the drivers in the cabinets and put a resistor across the speaker terminal.

Usually an 8 ohm resistor will work but increasing/decreasing the impedence will effect the dampening of the driver.

In other words, the resistor across the terminals will dampen the back EMF from the drivers and one must fine tune the resistor to hit the "sweet spot" so to speak and since the Tannoys are designed to be placed in the corner, this will be even better.

I have done this in the past with a passive subwoofer and it does work. I ended up using a 12 ohm resistor if memory serves.
