Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

I don't see why you'd need to restrict yourself to small speakers only...

..., unless it's dictated by considerations other than sound quality. Your room is not that small, and there are relatively large speakers known to perform well even when restricted by narrow room (assuming you're planning short wall placement).

One option that's supposedly designed with space considerations in mind - Amphion speakers (http://www.amphion.fi), namely Xenon. Search for info here at AA also.

I myself have relatively large speakers, KEF Reference 3.2, in dedicated room 17 x 11 x 7.5 (basement). They don't have really extended bass response, +- 3 dB at 40Hz, so boomy bass is not a problem. Some room treatment takes care of early reflections. The end result is more than listenable, to my ears anyway.
