Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Yes and no

Will they be my last speakers? Most likely. I've yet to hear any speakers that offer their levels of purity and coherence. Rugged as the Acoustats? No. That's not to say they are problematic though. But like women, they do need attention. Unlike the Acoustats, however, you will find that setting bias is a regular activity. The stators are run at far higher voltages and for best performance, you need to find the optimal settings.

Dr. West has continued to improve the overall reliability of the product. Development of the PX (professional series) has resulted in some changes to the core design to make them more rugged. It certainly is a bonus that the company is most alive and well for any servicing need.

I remain quite an Acoustat fan. Had four different pairs over a period of twenty eight years. The SLs are just plain better in every respect. More extension at both ends. Better defined and more solid image. More resolution. Neutral frequency response.
