Polk R30 -- Weakest link?

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

I have a NAD Stereo Receiver 7155 powering my Polk R30s that I got at Circuit City for 105$ (discontinued).
I just got a pair of Grado SR60 headphones for 69$ and find the audio quality remarkably better than over the speakers.
I had planned on getting a Panasonic XR* receiver and getting a sub/more speakers to do the "home theater" thing, but wanted to see what others thought of these speakers. Are there any comprable speakers to the quality/price of the Grado SR60? I was looking to spend less than 250$ for the pair of speakers, and would prefer sound quality over appearance/size.
I'm a college student, so I don't have an abudance of cash, but am willing to save up since I have something that works for the time being -- I'm not in a rush.
