Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Clever Design

The tweeter is side by side with the midrange to time align it at the seat that is furtherest away from the speaker. As you get to the center seat, the volume in the upper midrange drops about a db, then another db by the time you get to the closest seat. You also get a wide upper midrange cancellation to the outside of the speaker.

Benefit 1 - Wide sweetspot (time/intensity trading)
Benefit 2 - lowered effects from sidewalls and floor/ceiling bounces - less critical of a bad room.
