I have not heard the MX. I have never owned Merlins. I ordered them based on the performance of the VSM-M. These are speakers that have been "honed and polished" for the last ten years. Years ago I chose a pair of Von Schwikert VR-4 Gen IIs over the VSMs. While I really enjoyed the VRs, I always missed the finesse and "electrostatic like" clarity offered by the VSMs. I am finally getting around to purchasing them. I have not heard them with the electronics I have now, so I may have to make some adjustments.
