Re: Merlin, Sonus Faber, B&W, Martin Logan

I want to thank all you guys who posted your opinions of the speakers I mentioned. Not having heard any of these speakers, it is hard to determine fact from fiction. It seems some of you like some speakers that others were not very impressed by. I think I am going to drop the Martin Logan and B&W from my list. The ML are just too big and have some positioning issues which do not suit my room setup. The B&W are power hungry w/a metal tweeter. I believe I would like to stay with a silk dome tweeter for the type of music I listen to. I am a little disappointed in the response from the Merlin's because they seem to have a good following in audioreview but not in this forum. They are also tough to get an audition since their dealers are far and few between. I guess I am still on the fence on this one. I am getting a lot of good reviews on the Cremona's. I do like a speaker that is forgiving and a little on the warm side. Their looks don't seem to hurt either. The only problem would be with a center channel. I hear the solo is not a good match and the cremona center seems awfully big and expensive.

To those who asked how far am I willing to go I will say this. I do not what to be buying top notch equipment with expensive cables and cd players to match. It is easy to get out of control in search for audio nirvana and spend a fortune and not still be satisfied. I am willing to spend a little more for a good speaker but one that is easy to drive and not need the best in electronics.

I can still remember my system from college. Large advent speakers with a Marantz receiver and over the counter speaker cables. To me those where some of the smoothest, musical non-fatiguing speakers I have ever owned and they did not cost me an arm and a leg. I guess sometimes the latest technology isn't always better.

Thanks again for your input. I will have to do some more research and try to listen to these two speakers with maybe the SF Auditors thrown into the mix.
