Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Merlin, Sonus Faber, B&W, Martin Logan

64.12.116.9

I am starting to build my system from the ground up. I have researched these speakers (Merlin VSM-MM, Sonus Faber Cremona, B&W Nautilus 802 and Martin Logan Odyssey but haven't had a chance to audition all of them. They all are within a few hundred dollars of each other ($8000) I am looking for a speaker that can double as a HT system as well as stereo. I want something that will have well defined highs and a good mid-range with wide soundstage. The bass doesn't have to reach the lowest octave because I am looking to integrate a good capable sub. Which ever speakers I choose, I will buy an amp and preamp that will compliment them. I don't have the ability to A/B them or to bring them home for an audition because of distance involved. I was hoping I could get some good honest opinions of people who have heard these models with their electronics. After I selected my speakers I will try to mate them with appropriate power.

I am looking to see which speakers I should concentrate on. My main music types are, Jazz, classical, vocals and acoustical.
