After seeing other readers who feel as I do, that home theater speakers and music only speakers should not be one in the same I will proceed. I have what I concider a great Home Theater set-up using DCM Time Window 3's in front and 1's in back raised up to the ceiling. My center is a KEF 100.
The Time windows never satisfied me for music only. My room is 12x18x7 not
large enough for bigger speakers and keep the Time Windows. Also, I'm working with cement walls in the basement. What to do? Answer add a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 5is for music only. I use a DT PF15 Sub for the HT, I do not use it with the Monitors. I'll try to make it brief, the Monitors
have tremndous clarity, soundstage and bass slam for such a small speaker.
You get every bit of detail a good CD has to offer. You must use good electronics as this has a great deal to do with the overall sound of this speaker. All the simple tweaks that are recommened really do work. Such as tilt the speaker back 8 to 10 degrees, Bi-Wire for sure, mass load the cabinet with 12 to 15 lbs. of lead shot, remove the tweeter grills and grill cover. Sounds like a lot, it takes all of 15 minutes to do it all.
The speakers take about 100 hours to break in, be patient, you will be rewarded with sound you will not believe come from these little guys.
For music I use a Citation 200 Wt per channel amp., Citation Pre-amp, Magnavox CDP-650 CD player, Audioquest type 4 wire. If your in the market
for a music only speaker, I highly recommend an audion.
