Hi Alan,
I've got a slightly larger room (about 15' x 20')setup with the ProAc Response D15 and do not have any issues with boom. As you'll probably be aware the D15 have downward firing ports which makes it easier to position (especially to the backwall). Cannot comment about the Spendor but the ProAc's have a fantastic midrange and vocals sound terrific. Of course, you could opt for the (well reviewed and popular) Response 1SC which I auditioned as well but decided to go with the D15 which IMO is a better all rounder.
