No idea regarding the prototype issue, but if I remember correctly, the old Genesis was beginning to have money issues at the time it was to be released into general production.Not sure there was a 601, but there is a new 6.1.
The 450XS is completely different, with a 24" midrange ribbon, and more similar in looks to the the old 501.
