Having just skimmed through the LENGTHY thread below, I thought I'd chime in with a few comments in addition to my recommendation (below) that you look into the Silverline series.1) The Dynaudio Audience 72s, recommended by others, are well worth considering ... although, IMO, they don't sound "warm." The less expensive Countours are also a good bet. You really can't go wrong with Dyns.
2) Aperion Audio speakers offer incredible "bang for the buck." Their 3-way systems (two mini-monitors and a sub) run from $759 to $959. And they offer a no-risk 30-day tryout.
3) If you're willing and able to go up to $3,000, a whole range of possibilities opens up. IMO, $2K-$3K is the "sweet spot" for speaker values. If you really must stay under $2K I'd suggest the lesser Dyns, the Silverline monitors, or the Aperions. Dollar for dollar, the latter are the best bet, in my opinion.
