Re: Speaker Recommendations for Mistral Integrated

I had a mistral le for a while and it really is a nice amp. You do need to stay away from amps that are thin sounding as the amp doesn't start to drive the bass until it gets up a little on the volume dial.

I had the Mistral with a set of Audio Physic Sparks and that was a bad match.. only sounding full when at a high volume level. I switched over to Kestrel HR's which was a nice fit. The Kestrels are limited though in the level of detail that they can provide and do err on the side of being a little too laid back. On your list I feel that they'd be the best match. I don't like paradigms and I wouldn't go with the inefficient proac monitors.

After a brief foray with the new Kestrel 2's which I found to have improved detail etc lacked the good overall coherence of the original Kestrel..... I found bliss with www.carolinaaudio.com JTM's ... amazing coherence and a far superior transmission line to Meadowlark.

I ended up bringing my JTM's to a friends house last night who also as the Kestrel HR's with the Audio Refinement complete integrated which is very comparable in power and sound to yours. We had a great time listening to the speakers and the JTM's outperformed the Kestrels in evey regard and were really able to fill the open concept house with a great full sound. My friend went ahead and ordered a pair. They do have a 21day in home trail. Well worth a listen. The only thing that I can compare them to is Quads but withouts the beaming and dynamic limitations.
