This is really a reply to Stuart's original post:HSS originally made a big splash in the media in late 1996. Unfortunately, acoustical constraints essentially limit this to low-fidelity sound in the audible region of frequencies. See pp. 33-37 of the January 1997 issue of "Stereophile" for an excellent critique of this technology written by Martin Colloms. We had arrived at similar conclusions with experiments we had run in the lab in late 1996.
