The sonics of the CD is yet another ghastly "loudness wars" job..... The resolution of the recording sounds like 128 kbps MP3..... Maybe even worse..... Somehow, the music gets through to a degree in spite of that.....
It looks like Coldplay may have hit a wall in the songwriting as well..... A lot of cyclic repetitiveness and "stale sounding" melodies, which is a telltale sign.
The best tracks on the CD is "Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love" and "Yes".... The latter having the best sonics on the album. The worst track on the album is the title track- "Viva La Vida".....
Maybe the most-interesting thing about this particular CD is the way it was packaged- Like a vinyl LP. The cardboard package folds open, and an "inner sleeve" must be removed entirely prior sliding out the disc..... The problem is it otherwise has no semblance to the large black 12" counterpart.
