Interesting. I can sympathize with your concern about prices and access, although as my recent experience has proven, access can be had, even if on a limited basis.As for your comment on not liking what "passes for music" these days I don't get that. I'm probably in your age range as I saw the Doors perform live and was in the same high school as Nils Lofgren who was a year or two ahead of me and I knew his brother Tom. (Actually just a few weeks ago I was the commencement speaker at that high school's 2008 graduation!)
Unlike you, I find a great deal in today's music, in all genres, that I consider at least as good as what was around back in those days. I think it's really too bad that so many people get stuck in the music of their youth. While I realize that may not exactly describe you I have noticed it as an unfortunate tendency that I've never understood.
