You points are taken.I would rejoin that "Steel Wheels" would have passed beneath notice had it been the work of anyone BUT the Stones.
You point about free markets and giving the public what it wants is also fair. But giving the public "what it wants" has rarely been tantamount to artistic achievement. If they want to do an oldies tour with Little Richard and the Del Vikings, who am I to tell them that they can't? And who am I to tell people who want to see them in this context that they shouldn't?
But at this point in their career, one might as well go see them in Madam Trouseau's Wax Museum than on stage. In fact, it might be more surprising. And you'd probably save about $200 bucks and be able to leave your binoculars at home.
Just my opinion, of course.
