which is about as flattering a thing as you could say about them. A relevant, vital rock band they most certainly are not. With the exception of one or two glimmering tracks, the Stones have been in a long downward spiral since "Sticky Fingers." Just my opinion.
I don't have an axe to grind. I just have an opinion to express. I think the Stones are kind of unusual insofar as they have been straight-jacketed by the stage persona they labored so hard to establish, and I'm sure which they believe is essential to their success. It's kind of sad, since they have so much wonderful, even peerless, material. I just wish they would give that material the benefit of their experience and seasoning, rather than to strut on stage as the world's oldest bad-boy teenagers and attempt to reincarnate the bygone days.
You don't see Bowie glittering it up, do you? Shirley Temple, eventually, gave in, hung up her tap shoes and strapped on a brassiere.
