Holden came to prominence as a rock music critic with "Rolling Stone" magazine. He spent a number of years at the Times as a rock music and rock concert critic -- exclusively -- and only in recent years has become a film critic.

I said it was speculation. But if you're a rock music columnist, you live and die by access to musicians. I don't think there are many people who would have spine to lambaste the Stones, which they most certainly deserve.
