He was a rock critic, though in the same issue of the Times (last Friday, 4/4) that had the review of the Stones flick he also had a theater review & a cabaret review.

He had one of the more prominent pieces in the issue of Rolling Stone that ran immediately after the death of John Lennon. I would tend to agree that he's not afraid to call it as he sees it.
