A handful of guests actually whined that we didn't bring in a high-end audio system to play these tunes.
The banquet started with the Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice," and ended with Paul Davis' "Cool Night."
Highlights? When Aerosmith's "Angel" came on, our friends from high school got in a circle, and sang the outro, just like we did in '88! My wife told everyone to "shoosh," so she could soak in Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are." When Surface's "The First Time" and the Cover Girls' "We Can't Go Wrong" played, my friend from college turned to her husband, and said it was just like their high school dances. The husband flash a sly grin, and said, "So does that mean I can cop a feel?" But when Europe's "The Final Countdown" played as the staff was preparing for the cake cutting, our guests stood up!
