The new album is definitely a grower. At first, I was kinda disappointed, but it started revealing its many charms after a few more spins. The lyrics are juvenile at best, but Iggy's never been a poet laureate. Can it stand proudly among the original three albums? Probably not. But it's still a great rock album, and one that most bands a fraction of the Stooge's age would die a thousand deaths to make.As far as Iggy's solo work is concerned, I agree that a lot of his latter-day stuff is dispensible. That said, though, his last one, "Skull Ring," is excellent. It marked the official reunion of the Stooges--they played on a few songs--and that collaboration seemed to spur him on to a great effort. Well worth picking up if you don't have it.
