My take is that the Confedrate flag is not as inherently racist as what the swastika represented. Personally, I don't put those two on the equivalent plane. The Confederate flag has been used to represent everything from the the "Southern" way of life (in contrast to the urban Northen cities), mindless rebel hell-raiser types, and a sign of distinction of one form or another...not involving black slaves or the history thereof. The swatika never had the same depth of meaning in my opinion. You've got the original, arcane usage, the Third Reich and the people who try to usurp it for shock value...definitely not the same in my opinion.
