I find in my neighborhood live performance is getting very high priced. The LA Philharmonic is now $70 for top price ticket for 1 concert.I just bought a "mini" subscription to the LA Opera for 5 operas. My seats will be in the 5th of 8 price sections,so not bad but not top either. $922 for two tix for 5 operas. I make pretty good money, just under 6 figures and these prices are getting tough to pay. How many who make less can afford attendence ? Whats going to happen as the number who can afford live performance shrinks to say 1/2 of what it now is ?Classical musicians are not highly paid as it is. The work required to become a world class musician is already greater than the financial reward that comes at the end of that road. Will the common man only get recordings ? Will we end up with just a handful of orchestras doing recordings ? Will even that stop and we are just left with the mementos in our current collections ?
Very troubling questions. Any ideas ? Any progress in your city to solve these issues ?
