What a delightful valentine, and appropriate for President's Day too.
I've had the Wunderlich recording forever. Peerless. Why couldn't he have stayed sober or careful that fateful night? What a loss!! However I rejoice to be in the world while Kaufmann is at his peak. Although JK's voice these days is not so suited to this aria, I have no doubt that he is a great singer, wonderful in Puccini, Wagner and Verdi, as well as lieder. (Wunderlich is his idol.)
Speaking of Parsifal, I love the Girard Parsifal Blu-Ray, which also features outstanding performances from Peter Mattei and Rene Pape in addition to JK - it's one of my favorite Met productions of all time.
