The youth orchestra began their season to a full crowd.
We heard Burt Hara play the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, and they opened with La Forza del Destino and concluded with Tchaikovsky Symphony 4. Concerto was very good, but Hara seemed to strain a bit (cold air?). I have heard him during Hollywood Bowl LA Phil concerts. Overall, an excellent player with a long pedigree. Don't know why he left Philly. The other pieces were vigorous, more modern in approach than that of the founding conductor, and a bit ragged with brisk tempi (not rushed). My wife says they do not yet have the life as in the past.
New conductor for both YOLA and CYMO! Energetic Colombian raised in the El Sistema tradition again. They're kind of taking over here in LA.
