It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Francescatti

In the latest issue of Fanfare, James Altena (who I find to be a thoughtful reviewer, even if he does like Furtwangler's Beethoven)placed a set of Francescatti recordings into the Fanfare Hall of Fame, and indicated the consensus of the great violinists of let's say the period 1940-1970 included Heifetz, Oistrakh, Stern, Milstein, Menuhin and Francesatti. (there might be others - I don't have the article in front of me while I write- but Joanna Martzy is not on this list). I have never been that big of a Heifetz fan, and I think if I surveyed my recordings from that period Stern would be #1, followed by Grumiaux. I have a bit of Oistrakh and Milstein as well, and the Menuhin/Kempff set of Beethoven violin sonatas.

Curious to see what this group thinks of Francescatti, and what are the preferred recordings. Altena believes that NO ONE has touched Francescatti in the Bruch (the recording with Schippers). The one recording I have is the Brahms Double Concerto with Fournier and Walter.
